View Full Version : Installing SP1a for XP Pro Broke USB

My system has an "unsupported" USB 2.0 card in it. Before
I used WindowsUpdate to go from SP1 to SP1a, my Dell 2350
USB ports and the USB 2.0 card were all working joyously.
During the installation of SP1a, I hit the BSOD several
times. I uninstalled the device driver for the USB 2.0
and the install worked fine with 1 exception: My on-board
USB no longer works. It fails to recognize my MS-Mouse
and the USB 1.0 hub that was attached.

I tried to re-install the driver I had before, but no
change. I also tried hard-boots and soft-boots. Nothing
fixed the problem. I now have everything plugged into my
USB 2.0 card as the 4 USB 1.0 ports on my Dell are not
responding at all. According to the Device Manager, all
USB ports/hubs are working okay. I even deleted all of
the USB 1.0 devices and rescaned. It found everything
again, but still did not work.

Ideas?

Mark:
Have you check your BIO's settings? It may have turned off your USB
support.
I hope this helps.

This is really a Dell issue. Dell would be better prepared
to answer your inquiry.
