My OS is XP Home Edition.
Actually when the processes went into looping only i went
to safe mode.
Till then I had McAfee Home Edition.
Will it be testing automatically & effectively?
Also if the registries hav been changed how can i restore
them?
Thanks,
bye

PS.
I agree with Jim. Get that antivirus program up and working. Excessive
cpu use and mysterious messages about a drive being full when it isn't
are suspect.
Update the program and the definitions (I think McAfee calls these "DAT
files"). Perform a full system scan. A full system scan is more intense
than the automatic protection.
Also, use Folder Options> View. Set it to show hidden files and folders.
Then go to Documents and Settings\<your account>\Local Settings\Temp and
delete the contents of the folder. Leave the Temp folder itself alone.
Just delete the contents. Go back to Folder Options to hide files if you
don't want to see them all of the time.
While you're at it, right click on your hard drive and choose Properties
to check how full it is (or isn't).

Hi,
Thank you Sharon for your suggestion.
I did a search & found out that there are many files
called 'index.dat' in particular & find them created &
modified automatically.
What are these dat files - some kind of viruses?
Should they be removed periodically?
I'm running the McAfee.I have 10GB of free disk space.
I will use msconfig & see if i can spot out the problem
Any other suggestions for my problem are welcome.
Thanks,
bye.

Graham, if the index.dat files are in the ..\Cookies or ..\Temporary
Internet Files folders, they are fine. The browser uses these files to
operate. There will be index.dat files for each user on this system.
