Hi Alan,
Please follow these suggestions:
1. Clean the CD
==============
Make sure the CD is clean. The best way to clean a CD is
with a soft cloth like a T-shirt or handkerchief, and wipe
from the center to the edge in a straight line only, not
in a circle. A cleaner is not necessary. Even if the disc
doesn't look dirty, clean it anyway, as sometimes there
can be one small spec of dust on there that is hard to
see, but could prevent the laser from reading the disk
properly. See if that makes a difference.
2. Reduce CDROM Cache settings
===========================
a. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel and double click
the System Icon
b. Click Performance tab and then read what it says next
to File System. It should say 32-Bit. If it says anything
else then the procedure presented here will not apply
c. Now click the File System button and click the CDROM
tab in the dialogue box that appears
d. Drag the slider for Supplemental Cache all the way to
the left (small)
e. In the dropdown menu for Access Pattern, choose No Read
Ahead
f. Now click Ok, click Close (next to Cancel) and then
answer Yes to restart the computer
3. Turn off Auto Insert notification
===========================
a. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel and double click
the System Icon
b. Click the Device Manager Tab and then click the plus
sign (+) next to CDROM
c. Click the CDROM drive, click the Properties button and
then click the Settings tab
d. Remove the check from Auto Insert Notification and
click OK
e. Click Close (next to Cancel) and answer Yes to restart
the Computer
4. Clean the CD-ROM
=================
Try to use the clean disk to clean the CD-ROM.
Hope these steps can help you.
Best regards.
Terry
