XP home won't autorun and read CDs and CD-ROMs

my XP home edition recently won't run CDs and CD-ROMs. I
can'e even play games (age of empires) cos the computer
doesn't read the CD already in the drive. I need help...
i don't know what has happened... PLS HELP!!!!
