Recently installed new memory chip in 2nd slot in
computer, but my machine doesn't see it. It's an SDRAM
512MB, fitted properly into slot, but inactive. Can
anyone help? Thanks.

Can you see it in the bios setup program? If it is not there, you DON'T have
the strip seated properly, or it is defective (somewhat common).

Make sure you have the right memory: go to
http://www.crucial.com and use their memory
configurer to check. After you get that problem
straightened out, you might download memtest86
from http://www.memtest86.com and run it for a
few passes to make sure your memory is OK.
You should get zero errors.
