sound card

Ever since I upgraded to Windows XP, my speakers give off
no volume and my scanner doesn't work. Any help out
there? I have uninstalled and re-installed my sound
driver for Sound Blaster PCI, to no avail. I have
another friend who encountered similar problems, but had
to reformat his hard drive and then intall XP for
everything to function right. Can I avoid this? I do
have service pack 1a.

Can you provide your pc type or sound card if you know this
info, one would be better able to assist you with that info
