After about 15 min. Win xp home edition hangs! Everything
is new except case! Is there some kind of utility that
can find and repair software conflicts?

Make sure all the fans inside your computer are
working and check the case and CPU temps to
make sure they aren't overheating (often there's
a utility on the CD that accompanied the mainboard
to check temperatures). Also, you might download
memtest86 from http://www.memtest86.com and
check out your memory. You should get zero
errors.

This is also typical of an underpowered power supply.
Case is old, indicates not enough juice.

Not all PSU are the same. An Antec 300 watt is way better
than many 400 PSU that are junk.
