I have a homegrown PC with Intel D850MV board and 1.8 P4
chip. I am trying to replace my 40 gig hard drive with a
new WD 160 Gig hard drive.

I have updated the Atapi.sys file to the recommended
version and I am runnig Windows XP Pro with SP1 installed.

The system indicates that the drive is installed and
working correctly, but it shows that the size of the drive
is around 132 gig not 160.

I suspect that I need to update the bios and will do so.
Is there anything else I shoudl do? I am not a IT
professional, so please provide me with clear and not too
technical help.

thanks.

Hi, Neal.

When upgrading to a drive larger than about 137 GB, you need to upgrade some
components to handle 48-bit addressing. These two articles from about a
year ago explain it pretty well:

Just Google for "big drives" for over 7,000 hits.
