I have been able to duplicate this problem on multiple XP
machines. I have a computer that transmits a serial
string continuously to another PC on a Com port. When I
boot the PC receiving the data it installs a 'Microsoft
Serial Ballpoint' device at boot up via Plug n Play.

I have installed a GoldX USB to Serial Converter which
made the Com port number 5, I then ran the same test as
above and the same thing happened.

Anybody know how to disable XP from installing a serial
mouse device at boot up?
