HELP!
My email and newsgroups suddenly were unable to download
from attbi(provider). after much troubleshooting -
uninstalling of Norton Antivirus, etc., it was found I
could still get email using alternate ports - but 119, the
newsgroup port, is still not receiving. I've run IP Agent,
and it doesn't even recognize 119's existence - though
another detection program did.

How do I get out of this mess?

Thanks!

Do you have a firewall running? It may be blocked by a hardware or software
firewall. Also if you are running ICF (Internet Connection Firewall a
component of XP) that may be causing your issue. Also if there is another
program accessing port 119 first, your newsgroup program will not be able to
connect.

Have you spoken to your ISP? This isn't a Windows issue.

I've uninstalled Norton and triple-checked - there is no
issue with firewalls or port 119 being otherwise-used.
I've spoken to my ISP about 14 times, and even had themn
out to the site, here - no luck. The online/phone help is
useless, they all walk me through the same thing - the guy
who came out fixed the email with alternate port settings
for the email (465 and 995), but he didn't look at the
newsgroup stuff before leaving, havng declared "It's
fixed!"

YOu are sure this is an ISP issue, not a windows issue?
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Any idea what other software might block/use port 119?!

I reckon so - if they haven't checked the news-server.
