Safely remove hardware

Hello

I can I get the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon to
disappear from the icon tray at the bottom right of my
screen.

It offers to remove my usb modem. I dont want to remove
this and I want the option to do so to go away.

I have the same thing with a printer. Have never been able to find a way to
permanently get rid of it. I researched it. I've seen the question posted a
number of times. The general consensus is, set it to autohide and
fuhgedaboudit. Of course now that I've said that someone (from the Murphy
clan no doubt) will post with the simple solution I (we) have been looking
for all along. <g>

Right click Start button and choose Properties.
Select the Taskbar tab
Click Hide Inactive Icons
Click the Customize button near the bottom.
Find your item icon(s) and highlight it (in this case Safely Remove
Hardware)
Click the right side under Behavior
Click triangle in right side box
Select desired Behavior from drop down menu list.
Click OK
Click Apply
Click OK
