View Full Version : Probs w/IntelliMouse USB Optical and XP

I am looking for solid advice to fix the following
problem...
USB IntelliMouse Optical operated perfectly for more than
year on XP Pro pc. 2 weeks ago began to lock up during
session. Can be unplugged / replugged for additional
time (30 sec -> 1 min). If plugged into PS2 using
adapter it functions much longer but experiences delays
and jumping around screen if moved fast.
Attempts to fix...
Uninstalled most recent security update -- no improvement
Performed instruction set in Knowledge Base article
321122 -- no improvement
Tried to update driver (currently 5.1.2600.0) from MS
download but it indicated I could only use driver from
package.
All other USB devices are operating fine. The problem
w/the mouse as PS2 indicates that it is likely a change
in the OS that has caused the problem. No new devices or
software have been deployed or have been updated recently.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Suspect broken mouse cable, just inside the case at the stress relief.
Move the cable around while holding the case steady. What do you find?

Q,
Thanks for the straight advice. The problem appears to
have been the mouse cord itself. Good call. I had
already used multiple ports so I knew it wasn't the board
connector. I pulled a new IntelliMouse out of the bin
and it has run great for 3 hours.
