View Full Version : Regarding Modem connection settings under IE Options.

I am confused as to which modem settings I need to configure. I have XP
Professional and Office XP Professional. I have a LAN 10/100 card installed
and plugged into hub, but no second PC hooked up to it yet. Have a V.92
voice modem installed as well--which is how I connect to the internet. I
use a local ISP, so it is not one of the popular ones and does not get setup
automatically by XP--I choose manual setup.

Right now, I have the LAN card IE Connection options set to automatically
detect settings. I have unchecked the modem autodetect box in IE Connection
Options since I was not sure that the system could autodetect settings since
my install was manual. I am planning to hook up my other PC shortly.

For my modem connection to work properly, should I recheck the autodetect
box? I also have 3 other users setup as limited and would like to keep
things this way.
When I had this checked before, my connection seemed to be allot
faster--instead of dialing up manually (click on connection button in start
menu and then dial. I was afraid of a conflict between modem and LAN card.

Right now I have one connection available to all users (but not shared).
Can I add another connection that can be used by each user with the
autodetect setting selected if I select "save by me only". Or will this
later mess my network communication up between my 2 PC's when I get the
other loaded?
