Help please, I'm having trouble with my right mouse
button...it works
perfectly well with most applications, internet explorer,
outlook, etc...but
when I try to use it with windows explorer to see the
properties of a folder
for example nothing happens....I've tried it with other
user id's on my XP
and it works fine...it only appears to be affecting my
user id...I've tried
system restore which hasn't helped...the key on my
keyboard which you use to
emulate the right mouse button also isn't working I can
only assume that
I've switched off some setting somewhere...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is group policy and associated registry keys that will disable the
right-click context menu. Were you messing around in group policy?
Unlikely, since it only affects your account (assuming a workgroup
environment). Were you playing around with the associated registry keys?
If so, use the .reg file that you created as a reminder, to undo the
policy key settings and everything will be back to normal. If you are
using some tweaker tool, then it should have an undo feature.

Thanx for getting back so quickly, I'm however a bit of a
dunce where such things are concerned and prefer not to
mess around in the registry as I never know what I'm
changing. How do I get to this group policy...I know I
have to put regedit in the program run line...and after
that???? I have tweak XP Pro would that be able to undo
it??? I haven't been messing around with any of the
registry settings as I know how dangerous that can be..
Again how exactly do I go about changing the mouse
settings????

Thanks for your patience

If you don't know what I am talking about, then you weren't messing
around in group policy or its associated registry keys, so relax.
TweakUI for XP doesn't have these policy settings, but www.winguides.com
offers a tool that could cause what you are seeing. Do you have any
other tweaking tools that might cover policy? It would be under some
heading like "protect the desktop from changes".

I don't think it's a virus, since it affects only your account. I don't
know of any accidental circumstances that could cause this. Perhaps
someone else has an idea?

I see that David Candy has given you a policy key that will disable the
right-click context menu in another thread you started. (You should keep
one topic in one thread, however. Switch to Outlook Express to read news
if the web is too hard.) I hope that this is the solution to your
problem.
