When I type a website in the address line and try to go to
the site I can see the command line at the bottom
re-routing me to an alternate site. It seems to have taken
over my ability to surf the net freely. Can someone please
advise.

Scan for viruses?

Check you haven't installed any third party advertising software that takes
you to it's own homepage.
