The two limited accounts on our PC can not access any of
their personal files, such as My computer, My pictures,
Contol Panel, etc...When they try to, they get this error
message...
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error
Runtime Error
Program C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE
This application has requested the Runtime to
terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact
the applicant's support team for more information.

I ( administrator ) don't have this problem. So all the
limited accounts can really do is sign on to the internet
and surf, unless they use my desktop. I have ran a
sfc/scannow, not knowing if that has anything to do with
it, and it must not because it still has the error
message. I have changed the limited accounts to
Administrator accounts and that didn't work either. We
have had this system (Dell/supported Windows
XP) for 2-3 years and not any problems until this. Please
help....I'd like for my son to start using his own
desktop!
Thanks
Diane

I wish I had a suggestion for you, or better news. This Visual C++ Runtime
Error has plagued each version of Windows that I have used since Windows 98.
Back with Win98, the error would stop the computer dead in its tracks, and
force a reboot. No matter where I looked for a solution, one was never
found. The only way I could rid myself of it was to wipe the drive clean and
start again.

It's been better with XP (at least for me... the few times I have run into
the Runtime Error, it has not stopped me from accessing programs, or caused
a reboot). You seem to be less fortunate, however. I guess that no one
answers you because noone has yet found which program it is that causes
this. I do guess that it is some newly installed program that behaves badly
with library files from other Windows programs.

You might try uninstalling recently installed programs to see if that gets
rid of the error message. Failing that, and if noone comes up with any other
solutions (I doubt they will, considering how long this problem has been
floating around), your only solution might be to reformat and reinstall. Or
try a repair reinstallation of Windows: that might help, and will save you
much time and effort if it works.
