I have a Dell Dimension 8300 with 2 WD Serial ATA drives,
one 36 GB Raptor and one 120 GB Caviar. I also have a CD
ROM and a DVD +RW drive. When I inspect the hardware
properties, Windows tells me that BOTH my Serial ATA
drives exist on the Primary controller, Location 0 (0). I
was expecting that one would be 0 (0) and the other 0
(1). What is even more strange is that when I examine the
properties of the two Rom Drives, I see that the first is
located on the primary controller 0 (0) and the second is
located on the Secondary controller 1 (1) !!
I have checked the cabling (you can't really go wrong
with the SATA drives and the Rom Drives are on the
secondary controller with cable select jumper settings.
To be on the safe side, I have completely removed the
Primary IDE cable.
Can anyone explain this issue. Incidentally, I also
checked the config of my PC at work and I can see that
both the IDE hard drive and the CD Rom on this machine
are both on 0 (0).
