Monitor will not turn off in XPpro

I have a Dell (D2026) 21 inch monitor that will not turn
off while connected to my XPpro system. I have it set
correctly in Propertie/ScreenSaver/Power to turn off the
monitor in 15 mins. But it does not.
I have only a Default Monitor installed under
Properites/Settings/Advanced/Monitor and can not find how
to install this monitor as I do in Win98. Can anyone
help? I have tried the knowledge base without results.
This monitor will turn off when connected to my Win98
system. Thanks

Properties/Settings/advanced/monitor/change/
choose from a list/ choose plug and play
apply and exit out. May need to reboot.
