I recently bought a LaCie Hard Drive, a LaCie d2 200GB HD
FW 7200RPM 2MB drive. The serial number is 13162135. It
came with a software CD which has Silverlining 98 and
LaCie USB 2.0 Driver Installer.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop PCG VX88 running windows XP
home edition.

I want to connect my laptop to the LaCie harddrive via a
firewire connection. I have a Belkin Sony i.Link
Compatible 6-pin to 4-pin cable that goes from my Sony's
firewire port to the LaCie drive.

However I cannot get my Sony to register the drive. The
software I believe is not good for windows XP. The cable
that came with the LaCie drive does not fit any of my
computer's ports - also it is not a firewire cable.

How can I get my computer to work with the LaCie
harddrive? Do I need to download some drivers for
windows XP, and if so, where are they?

Yours,

Ken Gemes

I am suprised that the firewire port on the Sony is a 4 pin port. I thought
all Sony's used a six pin port that supplies power to the peripherals. If
the port on the Sony is a 4 pin port then you must supply power to the LaCie
drive from a separate source, either a USB port or directly from the mains
via a converter.
