View Full Version : Default Icons for My Computer and such set as custom icons

I'm currently running Windows XP Home Edition, but when i
first built this computer, I was running Windows 98. I
had one of the Plus! 98 icon themes enabled when I
upgraded to Windows XP.

The problem is, whenever I create a new user account, the
icons for My Computer, My Documents, and so on do not
appear as the XP defaults. Instead, they appear as the
icons from the Plus! 98 theme. I have tried removing the
actual icons from the Plus! folder, but that has not
solved this problem.

Is there a way to reset the icons so that new users will
see the default XP icons instead of the Plus! icons? I
know that you can use the Registry to change the icons
for the current user, but is it possible to use the
Registry or some other file to change the default icons
back to what they should be?

Well, that seems to have fixed the problem when Windows=20
is running nromally. However, if I'm in Safe Mode, and I=20
create a new user account (which I do often to verify if=20
a problem is user-specific, and such), or access a user=20
account other than my default account, the icons that=20
appear for the desktop links are still the old Plus!=20
icons.

Any other suggestions? It seems strange that it now only=20
affects user accounts when accessed or created while in=20
Safe Mode.

Mike, there really isn't a need to be overly concerned on how the display is
shown in Safe Mode. If you notice display rules change there anyway.
