View Full Version : Windows Management Instrumentation Software

When I open the System Information program I get a
meesage box saying:

Can't Collect information

Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation
Software. Windows Management files may be moved or
missing.

Whilst in the Windows management program I get another
error which may be connected to the error above:

error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to
start

Win "32: The dependency service or group failed to start"

Anyone got any idea how to get my system information to
run correctly or even re install the WMI?

Thanks
Gav

It sounds like the WMI Services may have been disabled. Go to Start/Run,
type: services.msc and press OK.

There are 3 services associated with WMI.

Windows Management Instrumentation
Windows Management Instrumentation Driver Extensions
WMI Performance Adapter

Try starting all 3 and set them to automatic.

Also, see this article:

Ronnie I tried all of that before but I received the same
errors, I have just tried starting the WMI again but no
such luck, I managed to start the other two fine its just
the Windows Management Instrumentation which will not
start and get this error when trying to start it.

error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to
start

Don't suppose you have any more ideas? Could it be a Bios
problem?

Thanks for the help

Regards
Gavin

Go back into services and make sure that the Event Log and Remote Procedure
Call (RPC) services are enabled and started. Try to start the Windows
Management Instrumentation service again.

I found the message because I googled it as I am getting the exact
same error message. HOWEVER:

I don't see two of these -- I do have "Windows Management
Instrumentation" (and it was set to manual and so I just started it)
but I do not seem to have the other two lines in this service manager.
I'm kinda puzzled ...
