I have just started receiving an error concerning the SM
Bus Controller. It is now not working and I concurrently
do not have use of my CD or DVD drives. They both work in
the Dell Diagnostic state and do not work in the XP
state. I have only recently put a fix into the registry
supplied by Pinnacle systems tocorrect a registration
problem with their Studio 8 video editing software. I am
not sure if that is the root of my problem for sure but
all things point that way. Any help? I do not have
system restore turned on and can not find the data entry
into the registry made this afternoon. I feel this is
what is causing the drives tonot operate. Any help would
be appreciated.

The SM Bus Controller is nothing to do with the CD and DVD drive(s)... it is
the Smart Media Card Reader and the drivers should be available from the
Dell website.

I would suggest the Pinnacle update has something more to do with the CD and
DVD drive(s) problem.
