windows xp drivers

I have a Compaq presario 5BW-160 computer that came with
a CD-ROM abd a CD-RW. I removed these drives and
installed DVD reader and DVD writer. The CD devices I
removed from the presario, I reinstalled into my wife's
computer running windows ME. Her computer would not
recognize or install the the drivers for these devices.I
contacted compaq/HP and they stated "there are no
separate drivers available as a download. the CD-ROM hase
a label showing compaq model sc-140 and theCD-RW as
compaq part number 152628-6B2, also CED 8083B (S27). How
can I get the proper drivers that I can Download from a
diskette as the cd's are not working. please help, Roy

They shouldn't need separate drivers.... WindowsME should correctly identify
them PROVIDED they are configured correctly (ie master and slave) and
recognized by the BIOS of your wife's PC.

Try this:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_cd_dvd_fix.htm
When open, go to Restore CD/DVD Drives to Explorer.
Download and install it. It worked for me. Let me know if
this took care of it.
