opening attachments in Word notWorks

PleaseI am new to windows xp how do I change from having
my e mail attachments open in Works to open in WORD
Should be simple but where do I start.

Open Internet Explorer, Tools/Internet Options/programs and
set your program selections. But it may be that the
attachment has a file type that will open in either, but
defaults to the program that created it. If you open Word
and use the "open" command within Word it will open .wps as
well .doc and .rtf. etc. But if you just click on a .wps
file it will open in Works.

You can change this by right clicking on a .wps file, select
"open with", select Word and check the box to always use
that setting.

Then the only way to open a Works file in Works would be to
open Works and use the internal command.
