View Full Version : notepad inserts too many carraige turns when Word Wrap is on

I recently upgraded to XP home. I used to use the
notepad that was included with ME to create lots of text
documents for other applications or web pages. Now when
I do that, I find Notepad sticks in lots of extra
carriage returns, so that if I expand or shrink the
Notepad window, I will get carriage returns in the middle
of the window, and when I cut and paste into other
applications I have to go in and manually delete these
carriage returns. How do I get Word wrap to work
correctly with Win XP's notepad??

Same as with Notepad in other versions of Windows--on the menu
bar, choose Format, and check Word Wrap.

NOOOOOOOO. Thats the whole problem. When word wrap is
checked, Notepad puts in carriage returns at the end of
some (and not all!) lines for the window I am working in.
Then if I expand to a larger window, or cut and paste to
another application, those carriage returns show up at the
wrong place. Its a random error that happens every 3rd or
4th line. I've seen others refer to this as a known bug in
XP's notepad, but I've not seen a fix.
