Hi all

I have automatic updates turned off and my homepage set to blueyonder.co.uk
can someone please tell me why windows update insists on *hijacking* my
connection when I launch IE and how do I stop it?

TIA

Try deselecting IE in add/remove Windows components then reboot and reselect
it.

Bill,

Kill the Automatic Updates service:
How to optimize Windows XP for the best performance:
http://www.fixyourwindows.com/optimizewindows.htm

If not, scan for Spyware and Viruses:
http://www.fixyourwindows.com/windowsxpsolutions.htm

Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies. As far as I'm aware, and according to Trend Micro
(online AV scanning), Sophos (latest IDE's), Spyware Blaster and Sybot -
Search & Destory + ZA Alarm Pro running I haven't got any
Spware/Viruses/Trojans on my system (one can't be too carefull ;o). I guess
I'll have to get round the problem some other way.

Cheers

Bill
