View Full Version : Weird HD Problem

Everything has been working fine until I recently looked at my C: drive to
see if I had an extraneous files I could remove. I was amazed to see that my
60GB drive only had 9.5GB available. I found that I had too many MP3 so I
copied them to a separate drive and, voila, available drive space jumped to
35GB (what it should be). However, I looked again today and same problem -
only 9.5 available. If I check the size of each folder I can only come up
with maybe 20GB, and that counts the pagefile that I have limited to 575MB
in size. When I run defrag there appears to be a HUGE file that is
fragmented all over the disk although I can't find it anywher (and yes,
hidden and system files are visible). My original thought was I backup one
drive to the other every night and the NTBACKUP uses Volume Shadow Copy.
However, when I run VSSADMIN it shows no writes currently in use. I have run
a search for large files (over 100MB and over 500MB) to no avail. There is
something taking up over 15GB on my drive that I simply can't find and that
a reboot does not delete.
Any ideas?

H Jr,
Have you emptied the recycle bin lately?
And how about the System Restore. That can eat a lot of space in a hurry.

Richard,
I have the Recylce Bin turned off so no worries there. And I checked System
Restore - the most it would take is 6GB - although I did lower the settings
to no avail.

You could have some type of log program turned on. Go to help and search for
log. As an example, you could be logging the modem signals when you log on.
If you turned on some logging event it will continue till you turn it off.
