View Full Version : 811493 Still Causes Problems

For those of you out there you keep there OS up to date
you will know that about 6 weeks ago Microsoft issued a
faulty update that caused system slow down. They removed
the patch and about a week later reissued it. Well if you
have installed it and are finding that your system locks
up for no apparent reason then the 811493 patch is once
again the problem. I recommend that you go into your
add\remove program list and un-install it. I pride myself
in a clean and fast system and 811493 has given nothing
but problems and yet is still a 'CRITICAL' update. A big
round of applause for the programmer who did this patch. I
think Microsoft needs someone a little more competent.
Good Luck

Hi Rev
On what observations do you base your posting? What errors have you =
found in the various files related to WU relating to 811493?

The fixed version did not come out a week after the original version. The
original version, which became obvious was causing problems for many folks
running AV software, was moved from critical to recommended updates.
Personally , I think they should have removed it completely, but there were
a lot of folks that did not experience the problems in the original version.
The fixed version was posted and put back in critical updates about a month
or so after the problem version was posted. Very few people have reported
problems with the fixed version on these forums. It caused me no performance
problems either.
I pride myself in a clean and very fast system, and as of this time I have
all the updates available installed on my XP Pro system, and it flies.
And guess what, I even run system restore :).

I've installed the new 811493 on several machines myself, and
know many others who have done the same. None of us have such a
problem. You're the only person I've seen report this.

I got smacked badly with the first version of this update. Installed the
fixed version and am not seeing any problems this time around.

I also had lockups after installing the reissued 811493 update on a
machine. Removed it and lockups are gone!
