Hi,

Since about 4, 5 months now I can not save as a .doc type of file with
Wordpad.
The (.DOC) is not there anymore in the Save As. And I'm pretty sure it
was there before...
All that is left is RTF, TXT, MS-DOS Format and Unicode.
I can still load .doc files but can not save them.

I tried this from another troubled user:

But it just replaces the EXE

I just tried Install on Wordpad.inf but it's the same :(

Is there a way to fix this without reinstalling XP or I'm I doin it
wrong?

We can see that Word6 is there.

Thanks

..doc is a file format for MS WORD, WordPad does not support
saving .doc files...you may have opened a .doc file at one
time, it would save as .rtf.

Nothing wrong with your setup, only your expectation.

Your memory is correct. Or we're both mis-remembering the same thing. ;)

Older versions of Wordpad did allow a save a DOC file - a specific
version. And they could read DOC files created with Word reasonably
well.

Bad news: XP's Wordpad does not do this. The RTF format can be used if
you are going to interchange documents between Wordpad and Word. Both
programs can work with the file type (it is less complex than the DOC
format that the newer versions of Word use).
