View Full Version : deleting files

When I use Windows Explorer to find and then "File"
"Delete" files to the Recycle Bin, I usually find Windows
has made a copy of the file in the same place. Some of my
files are up to copy 5. I can't win. I do have Norton
Utilities/Virus
running which now "protects" my Recycle Bin.
How can I delete copies with out creating two more copies
of the same thing in the same place?

Periodically, XP's Search will refresh the search results. If the extras
are showing up in the search results window, some of those items are
shortcuts and history. If the file is a type that is monitored by System
File Protection, a copy may get stashed in "System Volume Information."

To find out more about the duplicates: Use View> Details to see the file
types and locations of the new listings. Check for shortcut arrows on
the icons.

Also... It is normal for Norton's protected bin to have extra copies of
deleted files on hand. Periodically go through its contents and dump the
files and file info that you no longer need/want.

If you are truly getting duplicates (same file name, type, date and
size), scan the system with an up to date antivirus program.
