I bought an HP 501n computer last year with XP Home
installed. I want to up grade to XP pro. When I run the
install program it says that Pro can not install because
of a NVIDIAAGP filter conflict. I contacted HP they said
it was a video card problem. Contact MVIDIA. The system
has an imbeded intel 82810e video card. HP then said
contact MS. How do I get past this problem and install
Pro.

The problem seems to be that the drivers from the NVIDIA web site don't=20
actually get updated when the driver setup is run. Update the drivers =
manually,=20
and you'll be able to run the XP Pro upgrade.=20
Using Device Manager, and setting the "show hidden devices" option from =
the=20
view menu, you can see the NVIDIA nForce AGP Bus Filter under=20
"Non-Plug and Play drivers". The original version that was on my PC=20
was 4.12.01.0217. The driver file is =
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\nv_agp.sys.=20
Downloading and installing the latest Platform/nForce Drivers Unified =
Driver Package=20
for Windows XP from the NVIDIA web site (www.nvidia.com), places the new =
driver=20
in the C:\nvidia\nforceWinXP\2.00\GART directory, but doesn't update it =
in the Windows=20
System32 drivers directory. By manually copying the driver from the =
Nvidia directory,=20
you'll get past the compatibility problem. The version of the driver =
that works is 4.12.01.0278.=20
SOLVED THE PROBLEM THIS WAY:=20
Go to 'Windows Update'. After running the program, click 'Windows =
Catalog'=20
(lower left hand side). Click on the appropriate categories, IE: XP, =
Drivers, NVIDIA=20
(you get the point) and download the 'certified' driver.=20
