Computer loads quickly but after the logon screen when its loading the desktop, etc. Security Center slows down the loading of other programs. Can I disable Security Center or is there a way to make it load faster or something?

You can disable it. Go to Start, Run and enter SERVICES.MSC Locate the =
Security Center service, double click it set it to Stopped and Disabled.

Doug, if I disable Security Center, the firewall and so will stop working? I want to use Security Center but don't want it slow down the loading.
Thanks.

There's not much you can do about it slowing down startup. It has to =
load, and it takes however long it takes. The main purpose of the =
Security Center is to monitor various functions, such as your AV =
Software, the Windows firewall and Automatic Updates and inform you if =
any of them or not working (and this notification is customizable). =20

Disabling it won't cause any of the functions it monitors to stop =
working. Its just a monitoring process. With that said, there is =
enough malware, virus, trojan and spyware out there, and they're getting =
pretty sophisticated, it wouldn't suprise me to see them start actively =
disabling services like your AV software and firewall. I'd live with =
the slow load and go grab a cup of your favorite beverage while the =
machine reboots.

Reread your own post - you asked if you could "DISABLE" security
center, and when you get your answer, you say you didn't want to
"DISABLE".

I think what he means is that he wants to use Firewall, Automatic
Updates etc but does not want that Security Center Monitoring. If
Microsoft programmed SP2 well, it should be possible that you can turn
off Monitoring but still able to fire up Firewall at the startup.
Once you set to use firewall/automatic updates/Antivirus the Security
Center doesn't need to start on bootup after all.

Will this solve this problem: I am using a program called Viguard for a
Firewall/Antivirus. Now when windows start, it froze just after starting
Viguard. I can move the mouse around, but nothing else. So my guess is SC
and Viguard are in conflict. In the mean time, I have remove Viguard from the
startup sequence and load it manually once Windows XP is started

Monitoring in Security Center has been turn off.

So by stopping and disabling Security Center, I should be able to put back
Viguard in my startup sequence?
