SBD

I was having trouble with pop-ups so I decided to clean
the problem myself. It turned out I deleted some file
which caused my OS not to load properly. I didn't have my
copy of windows with me so I borrowed my cousin's copy of
XP home as a temporary solution. I didn't get around to
installing my copy yet. But the time limit of 30 days
have passed and I need to get in to back up my stuff and
install my copy of windows. I cannot access anything w/o
putting in a CD key. Does anyone know how to go about
doing this?

You have two choices (three if you can get hold of another computer running
2000/XP)

1) Try a repair installation with your disc. However, if this fails your
only choice would be to format and install clean

2) Put the drive in another system (running 2000 or XP) as a slave and
copy the important data to some form of removable media.

3) You might have to format and install clean, if the above fails.

I have to ask though - why didn't you back up in that 30-day grace period?
You've had more than ample time.

You will have to activate by phone (not such a big hassle) putting in
your own proper key at the point where you get the chance.

AFAIK you should be able to go into the 'activate by phone' option, put your
own key in, then once it's been accepted, go back to 'activate over the
internet' and activate your own key.

The trouble for the OP is that the 30 day limit has been passed - that
means he cannot boot to a mode in which he can access the Internet

Alex - what if they're different version/types?! Pro/Home, OEM/Retail, etc?
That wouldn't work.

True: but there is a good chance they are the same, and its is the
thing to try
