Is it possible to modify the behaviour of Windows Explorer in WinXP to be
more like earlier versions of Windows?

I find that it is much too sensitive in XP and it is very easy to
inadvertently launch a file or drag and drop it to another location.

Thanks for the pointer! Tools/Folder Options/General is probably set for
single click to open file - I am used to double-click. I'll check when I
get back to the machine in question. Problem probably solved.

More info needed. In the meantime, go to Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder
Options/View and place a check in the box that reads: Display simple folder
view in Explorer's Folder List.

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its Mouse page covers the things you need - double click sensitivity,
and drag sensitivity as well as speed of opening menus in Start Menu.
I suggest putting drag up to maybe 25 pixels, so you can drag up to
nearly icon size without result
