View Full Version : XP Registration ISSUE

I had to reinstall XP Home, it told me I had 30 days to
activate it. I clicked on the Icon that told me that I had
to activiate, it told me that I was activated, click OK to
exit. I did this.

Now, it is 31 days, and it will not let me log into my
computer at all. It tells me that I need to activate, I
click on OK and it tells me that I am activated, and to
click OK to continue, it is the only option, so I do, it
logs me out and takes me back to the log in screen. I have
tried re-installing, I have tried booting in safe mode, it
won't let me go into safe mode anymore, and I have tried
contacting Microsoft, they told me to call Dell, and Dell,
who told me to call Microsoft. Apparently the "Free
Unlimited Install Support" does not apply to me becuase I
did not buy XP Home off the shelf or from Microsoft.

I was treated like a 2nd class citizen by a person I could
not understand on the phone, her accent was so thick that
I did not know 1/2 of what she was saying, other then "I
can not help you"

What am I supposed to do? XP has turned my $1400.00 Laptop
in to a paperweight! I need this computer badly, I needed
it three hours ago for work.

Most large computer makers have contracted their tech support to an
off shore location to save money. Dell is no different. However,
your Dell should be BIOS locked and already activated. Obviously,
something went wrong with the process. Call Dell tech support again
and ask to speak with a supervisor. Do not waste your time speaking
with Microsoft (who won't help you anyway).

You may wind up phoning in to get your copy activated (you will have
to phone in to the MS activation toll free number) but I suspect there
is something else wrong. Copy protection (which is what activation
really is) does not protect against piracy but instead is supposed to
keep honest people honest by making sure they only install one copy of
the OS. However, the process sometimes prevents honest people from
using the software they paid for.

Think about that the next time you decide to purchase software or an
operating system.

Where did Windows XP come from?
Did Windows XP come with this computer?

You are correct, the installation support does not apply to OEMs such
as Dell.
This is a Dell issue since there is an error within Windows.
Dell should have known.
If there was a misunderstanding, then Dell May have thought you had a
simple Activation issue which would be a Microsoft issue.

What happens when you go to Safe Mode?
From Safe Mode:
Start/Run
Type "regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll" ENTER
Type "regsvr32.exe licdll.dll" ENTER
