Part of my operating system is malfunctioning. I cannot
erase folders or format drives. Essenially I've been cut
off from the full access to the system. For this reason I
must reinstall xp. I have a full version copy of XP,
however upon bringing up the disk I find no option which
allows me to repair or reinstall XP.(System Restore does
not funtion either)I need help. I tired of not being able
to fully use my system.

"Must"? It's hardly ever the right choice. At least try a repair
installation first.

Major repair is done not by running the CD from your system (which
sounds like what you are trying), but by booting it direct.

First try a repair reinstall: Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard disk,
then boot the XP CD, start Setup (do not take 'Repair' at this stage),
then after the license agreement take 'Repair Installation'. This will
retain your existing software installations and most settings. But
Updates will have to be run again, especially SP1 if the CD does not
include it.

It is important to activate the basic XP Firewall before you ever
connect to the net to get the patches, so as to be protected against
things like the BLAST worm.

Always back up essential data before doing any major system operation
like this, if you are still in a position to do so - just in case

Hi

Try the following link on how to perform a 'Repair' install of XP:
