No more restore points ?

Greetings - my apology if tis has posted more than once - I seem to have
trouble posting today.

Being one to regularly screw up my computer, I have come to really
appreciate XP's System Restore. Unfortunately, I have done something to
shoot myself in the foot, since I can no longer "go back" since I no longer
HAVE restore points.

This happened first a couple of months ago. I couldn't fix it, so I did an
entire clean HD reinstall of everything. Now I am no longer making restore
points again.

I don't know if this is related to some messed up microsoft update I have
installed or what... Anyone who can help or has experience with this
problem, PLEASE... counsel me!
