The product code is on the back of the beginners guide
booklet supplied with your copy of XP. If you have lost
this then you are in a bit of bother.
Firstly, it is difficult to determine which poster are
using a legal copy and which are not. This is why, in
many cases, most requests for help with product code
number go unanswered. If you have a legitimate copy and,
as well as activating the copy, you have also registered
it with Microsoft it may be worth your while contacting
Microsoft Customer Care (see the Microsoft website
www.microsoft.com) and ask them whether they can help. If
it is registered with them Microsoft do, at least, have a
record that the software legally is registered to you.
Unfortunately, there are no other options other than
buying another copy of XP. Regrettably, when you take
your pc for repair and you are told that the drive needs
reformatting and the software needs reinstalling then you
really need to make sure that the repairer has the copy
of the operating system you have to put on your machine.
