XP home with 2 nic's

Can anyone confirm that XP Home will work with two nic's? One connects to a DSL modem, other connects to internal LAN via a switch. Problem I am having is when I install 2nd nic, both nics fail, ie, do not connect to DSL or internal LAN. How do I tell
XP Home which nic to use for which network segment? Does DSL facing nic need to be setup for ICS? Bridging?? DSL facing nic is DHCP to ISP and internal facing nic is setup static ip (no DHCP server on internal LAN).

Using two nics is a very common configuration and should work fine.
Enable ICS on the DSL nic. Don't bridge the two of them.

Check Device Manager for indications of trouble.

So, ICS is what tells the system one nic is outward facing and other is local lan facing? ICS acts as a router then?? What throws me is, with both installed, I can ping neither. I would think I could, at least, ping the LAN facing nic because it has a
static ip.

Yes and yes.

Yes, you should be able to ping both of them. Make sure that a
firewall isn't blocking pings. Check Device Manager and Event Viewer
for indications of trouble.
