View Full Version : Cannot Boot

Hope somebody can help.

I have Windows XP Home Edition with SP1 loaded.

I installed Office XP last night and the PC crashed. When trying to re-boot the it would start loading but re-boot half way through the load up screen (the one where the Windows XP logo comes up.

I have tried booting up using every different option, such as Safe Mode, Last Known Config, etc, but the same thing then happens.

It also doesn't re-boot from the CD as it stay in the re-boot loop.

Stupidly, I changed the POST screen from recognising the primary drive hoping that this would then allow the PC to boot from the CD, and now I can't even get into the POST screen to change it back and now it always says press any key to boot up.

If anybody has any suggestions, please let me know.

Many thanks.

There was nothing stupid about changing the boot order to have your
cd-rom first and hard drive second. You didn't disable the hard drive
did you? If your computer will not get through the POST and allow you
to get into the BIOS, then you have serious hardware problems that have
nothing to do with Windows. The Office installation would not have
caused the hardware problems, but probably failed *because* of bad
hardware.

Unless you are skilled in doing hardware diagnosis, take your machine to
a good local repair shop.
