This is a message from SMART - which is technology that tries to anticipate
a failure or problem with your computers hard drive.
Basically you should contact HP for support as your hard disk is about to
fail on you and you will loose all of your data on it.
If you can start the machine -by pressing F1 as the message instructs you -
then backup all of your important data and then get on the phone to HP about
this.

This message is being generated by the SMART utility program. You can turn
it off in Bios. It's telling you that your hard drive is about to fail. I
don't know how accurate this program is in detecting HD failures. You might
visit your HD's web site & see if there is some utility program you can down
load that will test your HD.

What else is there to say? The message is clear. Your hard drive is =
about to fail. Replace it. In fact, buy two, that way you have a hard =
drive to back up your important files to.

Hi Lisa -
This message indicates that your hard drive is starting to show
problems, and it'd be a good idea to backup your data and replace the
drive. If you don't replace the drive, eventually one day it will not
start up at all.
If the computer is still within its warranty period, you should talk
to HP about replacing the drive for you.
I hope this helps -

Greetings --
Replace the hard drive indicated as soon as you can. Until then,
back up all of your important data at least daily. Btw, this a purely
a hardware issue and the OS installed on the hard drive is immaterial.

Vaughn,
I believe that "eventually one day" every hard drive will fail, or as you
put it "not start up at all" :-)

This part tells you that SMART is predicting a HardDrive failure

This part is telling you what you need to do.

You're absolutely right. I was being way too nice about it. ;-)
When you start getting SMART messages like the OP is seeing, doom is
usually just around the corner.
