Is it possible to add users to local user groups from
another pc in the workgroup? It seems that this should be
possible but when I go to look in another location I only
see my own pc. I dont have any other problems accessing
any of the other pcs on my network. Or seeing them via
browser or unc path. But when I try to add a user to a
group and select 'location' all I see is my pc name...
none of the others... Is this just possible on a domain?

You can only refer to local machine accounts in a workgroup.

So to let another user from another machine connect, you need to set up a
user account on your machine which matches the user's account on the other
machine.

Maintaining concurrent user accounts does not scale well, and a domain
permits on machine called the Domain Controller to hold a single central
user account database.

Once a PC joins the domain, then you can select either local users or users
from the domain in the Location selection.

Thanks Ron... What kind of problems do you run into while
running concurrent accounts? Should I not do this?

No problems, just the administrative chore of keeping them all set up
correctly.

This doesn't scale well on a large network, hence the need for domains
on large networks with many servers and many users.
