I don't know if I picked the right newsgroup, If I did,
please direct me. Got the problem where some of my
applications won't run and I get this message: "Gator
Client Application has encountered a problem and needs to
close". I clicked to send the error report, but I have
not received a reply from Microsoft. I just bought the
software Windows xp Home Addition. What do I have to do
to get my system running correctly? What website at
Microsoft do I have to visit? Thank you for your
assistance in this matter.

Greetings --
Use a spyware removal tool to clean your system of all traces of
Gator, for starters. Two products that should be able to do this are
Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.de and SpyBot Search and Destroy from
http://security.kolla.de/. Both have free evaluation versions. And
then install a firewall to block future attacks and warn you when
something you've installed starts sending out information to the
Internet.

James,
You won't hear from MS regarding the submission of the problem. They will
record the info and if there are enough user's experiencing the problem a
patch/fix will be issued and available in Windows' updates.
A more immediate cure is to go to:
www.lavasoft.nu
Download "Ad-aware" and install it. Then have it remove the Gator entries
which are causing the problem.
You may also want to use Spybot Search & Destroy to check your system for
spyware entries and removal;
http://security.kolla.de/
Hope this helps.
