Some one had mentioned to get rid of the pesky popups (advertisement) in XP
Home. You could stop them by going into My Computer/Manage/Services and etc.
I did that and no luck.
NOW ...I honestly admit that I did have a popup program that worked damn
good, because it would stop the Messenger Advertisements. But I removed it
to try another and then another...NOW like an idiot I can't remember what it
was called or even where I had gotten it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanx

If you mean a pop-up stopper (such as Popup Killer or Ad-Subtract) which
kill pop-ups (or pop unders) on websites then these do /not/ work for
Messenger Service advertising. The only way to stop these (and stopping the
Messenger Service from running is like sweeping the garbage under the mat -
you won't see it anymore, but it's still there). You need to purchase, and
configure a decent firewall (www.zonealarm.com do a free one - and I use ZA
Pro). At a pinch, the native one will work, but I prefer the security of one
that prevents nasties both ways. You need to configure said firewall to
block ports 137-139.

Please note, that these popups have nothing to do with Windows or MSN
Messenger.

I'm using "Pop Up Blockar and Ad Killer", it works quite ok. It says
it is make especially for Kazaa, but it deals with Messenger Service
pop-ups too.

But this does NOT stop the intrusion into your machine, it ONLY stops the
"Pop-UP" from "Popping up". Get a good firewall and configure it to deny
NETBIOS access.
