I have two drives F: (DVD) and G: (CDRW) connected as
master and slave to the secondary IDE channel. After
upgrade to XP Pro and applying all service packs,
something strange happened. When I double click on the F:
drive in explorer, I get the error message Insert disk
into drive F:. This is the right behaviour for an empty
drive. However, when I double click on G: drive, even
though the drive is empty, there is no message and right
side of explorer just shows blank. There is no problem in
the use of drive. If I boot into safe mode and log in as
Administrator, Windows detects both empty drives
correctly. However, if I log in as myself, even in safe
mode, I still have the same problem. There are no other
error messages or abnormal behaviour in the use of drives.
I unistalled both the drive in device manager and let
Windows reinstall them automatically on restart, but the
problem persists. There are no special drivers for the
drives. Windows drivers work fine.
Any help will be appreciated.
