Hi

I have a Chaintech 7VJL Apogee KT333 mobo with an Athlon
1700 XP processor (Palamino I think) and am looking at
upgrading the processor. Am I right in thinking I can go up
to any Athlon with 333 FSB? If so, does this include the
Thoroughbred and Barton CPU's?

It doesn't state anywhere in my manual what processor I can
go up to.

TIA

Mark

There are 3 different models of 7VJL motherboards by Chaintech so find out
which you actually have and check their website at
http://www.chaintechusa.com/tw/eng/product_list.asp?MPSNo=13&SPSNo=12

It's the 7VJL Apogee (not the Deluxe one)

I think he intended YOU to look it up.

Tech service beyond the suggestions should cost money.

I have looked it up, but it doesn't state anywhere what
my mobo supports, that's why I posted here. I was just
asking if the rule of thumb was if my mobo is KT333, does
that mean I can fit any Athlon processor that has a 333
FSB?

I think that Cari is quite capable of speaking for herself..

Do you realize how rude you sound to others?

I have just been through this all.

I spoke ot Chaintech (Oct 2003) if you have an unmodified board (look
for numbers starting S101 - S103 then you cannot use a 333 FSB CPU.
Limiting you to an XP 2600 (133FSB) if you can find one.

However they will modify it for you for free, well they used to, now
they just exchange it for a version M101 board. (no nasty wires
soldered onto it)

The service is excellent i couldn't reccomend them more highly within
a week you will have a shiny new board (boxed with a new set of
accesories) that will officially support 333FSB and take the Barton
CPU's up to the 3000xp. Thats official from Chaintech. You just
exchange it for your old one.

If you still have problems they state the PC must have at least a 400W
PSU and they recommend Dane Lec or Corsair memory.

Best contacting Luc in holland and ask him to sort it.

Good luck
