I have just upgraded my computer and want to do a fresh install on winxp pro, originally I have 1 pata harddisk (primary master), dvdrom (secondary master) and cdrw (secondary slave), I have added an SATA harddisk (seagate 80G), winxp install runs smoothy
but when I boot it up after setup, winxp assigned drive F: to my SATA harddisk (which is the boot disk) and C: is assigned to my original ata harddisk and marked it as system disk, (D: and E: are dvdrom and cdrw) is there a way to set my sata harddisk to
drive C: and marked as both boot disk and system disk? I dont mind reinstalling, I just want it as C: as I may remove my old pata harddisk later

I had basically the same problem and solved it by temporarily removing the
PATA drive and installing
XP on my SATA drive and then reinstalling the PATA
drive.

You can manually change the drive letters in the registry under
MountedDevices as well.
