hello,

i ahne a technical question. my father has a WinXP retail
version software. Due to mishandling, scratches have
appeared on the CD and the CD is not usable. Luckily, he
took a backup of the software on another CD by selecting
all the files and copying the files onto another CD.

due to some problem, i had to reinstall the software. I
have a Windows XP startup disk and booted with it. Put teh
backed up CD in the drive. Changed drive to CD Drive ( CD
e: where e: cd drive). Typed "setup". Here the computer
gives a message stating that " This program cannot run in
dos version" and i was unable to install the XP.

i have windows 98 SE. i first installed it. Then put the
XP CD in the drive and double-clicked on setup and updated
the operation system. This was a tedious process.

In the days of Windows 98, you could boot with 98 startup
Disk and install Win 98.

My Question:
I have Nero CD Burning software. It has option to make
bootable CDs. while making CD you could add files.

while creating it first asks for Bootable floppy - I will
put win XP Startup disk in the floppy drive from where
Nero will copy Boot files.

i will add the files of winXP from the backed up copy.

"will i be able to install the software as was possible in
original Win XP bootable CD" ?

Thank you
gopal

Possibly, if you were to copy the entire XP CD to another CD and make it a
bootable disk then it should work as the retail did.
