After running thru the shut down sequence the pc
automatically reboots.Nothing suggested in the MS
knowledge base helps.Nothing untoward reported on the
event log. Any ideas? Thanks

Open Control Panel - System - Advanced and click on the Settings
button in the Startup and Recovery (bottom) section.

In the Startup and Recovery window click on the checkbox for
Automatically Restart to clear it.

Click on Apply and OK as needed to exit.

That should stop the computer from resetting itself. However the
resets may be replaced by Blue Screen Of Death STOP errors and the
computer may then lock up requiring a manual power off. However the
contents of the STOP error will be a direct clue as to the underlying
cause of the problem.

Check out the STOP error message on MVP Jim Eshelman's STOP errors
page at http://www.aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm or you can post the
information from the STOP error message, including all of the
parameters, back here.

Good luck
