View Full Version : Epson SC900 does not print properly

Hello,
I've replaced WinSE with WinXP and now my Epson printer,
recognized by XP, does not print properly. I get a 1/2"
ribbon on each line, that starts with yellow, then red,
then black and it shows the letters (writing) in lighter
colors in the upper part of the ribbon.
Epson says that WinXp has internal drivers for the SC900
but the latest Win2k driver they have on their homepage
will work! But No Dice, it also does the same thing.
I tried both, LPT1 and USB connections but improvement
either way. If someone could help me with this, I'll
appreciate it. I can't print now. Thanks, Max

That SM does *NOT*, I repeat does *NOT* work under XP. I should know, I have
an ESC900, too. The only SM that works under XP is SM3, which is for newer
printers only.

Have you changed the cartridges?! I also suggest purchasing a set of
cleaning carts and using them. I have an ESC900 running under XP Pro and it
works flawlessly with both the native and 2000 drivers. It has given me
eight years of hassle-free service and, IMNSHO, is the best inkjet Epson
have ever made. I'm now in the market for a photo machine but, because of
Epson's recent slip in reputation, I'm looking at Canon (either the i950 or
i9100) - both machines winning every award known to humankind.

There is no such thing as Windows SE - I assume you meant ME?

Hello,
You're right about the ESC900, that's the reason I
like to keep it working on XP. BTW WInS(econd) E(dition)
is a legitimate name. I have e-mailed Epson with the
problem, but all they wrote me was to download the Win2k
drivers and install it with the Printer Monitor ver2.5
The XP drivers do not work either and I can not find
anything in MSKB/XP about printer problems. The
cartridges are new and I have almost halve emptied them
with head cleanings. I tried to print under WordPerfect,
Wordpad, Word, always the same , paper full of black
ribbons. Max

If you upgraded from Windows98 Second Edition and kept the printer connected
during the upgrade you have corrupted the drivers.

Uninstall the reinstall the printer using the instructions at:

http://www.coribright.com/windows/Article%20One.htm

After the reboot, use the Add Printer Wizard, the drivers are built into XP
as you found out.

Where did you get the Status Mon 3 and for which printer?
I downloaded 2 different ones from Epson but every time
was cut of because I did not have the right printer.
If this is all it takes, please tell me which one to get.
